Make Your Home Office Work

Chances are you have a home office – over one third of American homes do. Whether yours is the epicenter of a home-based business, or just a silent haven to get the bills squared away and surf the web, this room matters.

Keep it Clean!
Thinking “office” often conjures up nightmares of tower-of-pisa-style stacks of envelopes, a ring of crumbled paper surrounding an overstuffed garbage can, and all matter of clutter in every corner.

To avoid this nasty situation, be sure to keep plenty of storage space. Consider a desk with plenty of drawers, a chest covered in a throw (for a designer touch that helps the storage work double duty), or a wide book case or two narrow ones, side by side (can also serve as a divider in the middle of the room).

Privacy Policy
Whatever your business is, you’ll want to keep it yours alone. You don’t need passersby ogling your faxes, computer screens, or next great American novel. So empower your windows with a window covering that offers the privacy you need.

  • Many styles of Honeycomb Shades offer you privacy (and excellent light control, too.) Go for gold-medal privacy and light control with MyBlinds Honeycomb Metropolitan Blackout

  • Bring rhythm into your room with our Smart Roman Shades. Their soft fabric folds are sure to soothe. And, with a room-darkening liner, you’ll have far less light, and fewer nosy neighbors.

  • For some visual flavor, consider Woven Wood Shades. Their tempting patterns and textures will fly your home office to the Bahamas. Just ask for a privacy liner, and you’re good to go.

Go with the Flow
Who says that your home office needs to feel like it’s not at home? The cold grays and blacks and metallic furniture of home offices is no longer standard in home design. And isn’t that what an out-of-home office is for? Let your home flow into your office. Invite your private life inside.

If you have contemporary color palettes in your home, why not let them come into the office? Even if you want more of a modern office sense, you can still accent the room with colors that remind you of the home just beyond the door.

Remember: It’s Your Style
No one ever said an office has to look like an office. Fill it with exotic plants, all of your favorite desk toys, handmade collages of family and friends. One of the greatest parts of “home office” is that first word. It’s your home, it’s your say.
