How Do I Shop for Window Coverings?

Window coverings are not an everyday purchase. In fact, you’re probably thinking of window coverings for one of four reasons:

In any case, window coverings are a very important purchase, but not one you may know a lot about.  So, as you begin your window treatment journey, here are a few questions you should ask yourself:  

Which rooms am I putting my MyBlinds in?
Based on their characteristics, different window coverings are more appropriate for different rooms in the house. You can begin to narrow down the selection by matching the location with the various features and functional qualities different window coverings provide.   

For example, kitchens and bathrooms have high moisture content in the air, so you should consider a product that is moisture-resistant, such as Faux Wood Blinds or Vinyl Verticals.  For bedrooms, you’ll want privacy and light-control, so you should consider a blackout Honeycomb Shade or a Room Darkening Sheer Shading.

How important is privacy?
Not every room needs complete privacy. But some that do may include your bedroom, home office and bathroom.  And some products offer more privacy than others. 

Sheer and semi-sheer shades offer light filtering capability, but little privacy, whereas Woven Wood Shades or Smart Roman Shades with an optional blackout liner offer total room darkening.  You can also consider Honeycomb Shades with a top-down option.
