Wood v. Faux: Which Way to Go?

The Wood Blinds versus Faux Wood Blinds question would be considered age old, if it weren’t for the fact that Faux came onto the scene a mere decade ago. But now that they’re here, we must ask: what IS the difference? Sure, you may think that the only distinction between the two is price, but you’d be mistaken.

Words about Woods
Wood Blinds are, naturally (pun intended), made of real wood.  They feature a very distinctive beauty that only Mother Nature could provide.  Available in a wide selection of whites, neutrals and stains, as well as in a variety of slat sizes, Wood Blinds are guaranteed to fit any window while bringing warmth and the character of the outdoors into any room.

Take note: Because Wood Blinds are made of real wood, no two pieces are exactly the same. You’ll find individual characteristics including graining, color tone, and natural markings. Every slat will be unique – a true collector’s piece.

Faux Wood Blinds
There are essentially two types of Faux Wood Blinds – composite wood blinds and polymer blinds.

  • Composite woods are comprised of wood flour combined with a durable polymer material.  Offered in whites and wood tones, they have a warm, luxurious look that is very similar to wood.

  • Polymer blinds are made of pure polymer vinyl.  Also offered in whites and wood tones, they resemble wood, but don’t fully represent its natural beauty.

So, why go Faux? The main benefit is that Faux Wood Blinds are ideal for areas with high humidity and extreme temperatures. This is because natural wood absorbs moisture, which leads to fading and warping - and Faux does not absorb moisture.

In other words, Faux will go where Woods would not. This includes bathrooms, kitchens, and saunas. They also work in moisture-heavy regions.

In the End – You Can Do Both!
Who said you have to choose just one type of blind? Because Wood Blinds and Faux Wood Blinds have a similar look, you can decorate your home with both.  Work with the real thing in your living room, bedroom, and den.  Then turn to the designer impostor for your kitchen, bathroom, and children’s rooms.
